Usually calm, although conditions can be choppy if there is wind against tide.  Strong currents can run into the channel in the northeast season.

Eastern side of the Fehigili Channel.

Kuredu (50min).

There can be a strong current across the reeftop which may lead to choppy sea.

Currents can be very strong in the channel and choppy sea can develop.

Club Med (30min), Kurumba (20min), Bandos (35min), Full Moon (35min), Giraavaru (30min)

Sheltered from northwesterlies but exposed to westerly and southerly winds.  Currents can be strong, and there may be chop when the tide outflows from the atoll.

Southern, ocean side of Thila Fushi Reef

Kurumba (40min), Giraavaru (15min), Club Med (45min), Full Moon (45min), Bandos (50min)

Sheltered from northerly winds but difficult in strong southwesterlies.  Often a strong current runs along the reef.

Paradise Island (30min), Full Moon (20min), Bandos (30min), Huduveli (30min), Baros (45min), Kurumba (30min), Club Med (30min).

Sheltered in both seasons.  Moderate currents.

Southern side of Vaadhoo Resort house reef.

Vaadhoo (10min), Laguna beach (20min)

Can be rough in strong southwest winds, at which times visibility will be reduced.

1km ( ½ mile) east of Dhigufinolhu Resort Island.

Palm Tree Island (15min), Dhigufinolhu (10min), Biyadoo (25min), Villivaru (30min), Kandooma (30min).

Good in all seasons.

Southern side of Cocoa Resort house reef.

Ferocious currents at times.  A short, choppy sea may develop if there is wind over tide.

Often a large rolling swell. The waves can break on the reef in the shallows.

North corner of Guraidhoo kandu.

South channel of Felidhoo fishing island.

Usually calm, although conditions can be choppy if there is wind against tide.  Strong currents can run into the channel in the northeast season.

Very exposed in southwest winds; very strong currents at times can cause big eddies and over falls.

Good in most conditions.

Very strong currents can be fun through this channel in both seasons.  If the wind is against the tide the water can be choppy.

Can be rough in westerlies but generally protected in moderate conditions.

Kuramathi (10min), Veligandu (40min).

Exposed in southwesterly winds.

This site is exposed in both seasons, so good surface conditions are needed if you are to dive comfortably.

Good in all seasons.

Ellaidhoo (20min), Halaveli (40min), Bathala (60min), Maayafushi (60min).

Usually good, although can be choppy if there is wind against the tide.

500m (550yd) southeast of Veyofushi uninhabited island.

Eastern point of Hirundhoo house reef.

Usually calm, unless winds are very strong.

Sonevafushi (40min).

South corner of the Kanuhuraa Channel.

Kuredu (35min).

Currents can be very strong, leading to a choppy sea if there is wind over tide.

Live aboard only.

Usually good, but there can be choppy sea at times.

1km (1/2 mile) west of Eriyadhu Resort Island

Protected in all wind states.  Currents are usually small.

Exposed to southwest and northwest winds.  Currents can be strong in the centre of the channel.

Accessible in moderate conditions only.  Currents can be very strong in the northeast season.
